The government of many countries have put a ban on the use of plastic bags as they contribute to maximum amount of plastic pollution. However, in some countries such as India, this ban has not been implemented well. The government must take stringent steps to stop the use of plastic bags.
When plastic bags given away for free in stores are banned, there's an increase in the types of plastic bags people can purchase to fulfill the same jobs as the free ones. For example, NPR reported that small garbage bag sales increased by 120 percent after a plastic bag ban went into effect in California.
In the United States, attempts by legislators to ban or restrict the use of plastic bags have been derailed several times in recent years by the lobbying efforts of the plastic manufacturers. But recently, as of October 15, 2011, the City of Portland has banned single-use plastic bags at major grocery outlets.
Plastic bags, however, have been up for debate as to whether or not they should be used or banned. Some say they use up resources that we can not get back; release toxins into the air, water, and ground; kill animals that do not know the dangers in their consumption; and poses a combination of attributes making it hard to recycle after use.

I don’t think that’s a world we would want to live in. Single-use plastic bags can cause major damage to the environment; they can harm the wildlife and destroy their homes with the toxins which they produce.
Despite the advantages of banning plastic bags, the solutions for plastic bags are worse than the original problem. Most people who advocate banning plastic bags suggest paper bags (which are biodegradable) or reusable bags that are typically made from cotton or plastic. Both of these replacements are flawed.
Plastic Bags Should Be Banned. Plastic is non bio degradable and thus causes pollution. Did you know that 10 million marine animals are killed each year by mistaking them for food! It’s crazy. 13 billion plastic bags in the UK are used each year and 23 million in New York. That is why plastic bags should banned.
